PD. You have seen a list of what I carry in the back of the truck. What you havn't been told about is what goes on top of the canopy.
We have to keep away from low clearance bridges!

Mike, are you saying those purty little outback chickies will race you?

Who gets the best of it when a car, just a car, not a 4wd, not a pick up, just a car, nails 1 of them?  BTW how much does an adult bird weigh.

{{Old farm machinery is on display at a neighbors.}}

(BTW, speaking of decking the halls,  we already have snow, but it may go as I speak)

Cool

LK keep your snow we are cold enough as it is for this time of year only 24 degrees in brsbane on the 7th dec BLOODY unheard of if this keeps up my air conditioners will be rested and I will be shattered and unable to sleep because its to quiet

Yep LK they will race you alright and MIkel is correct when he says that they will line you up and I have seen them do more damage than a roo but the worst part is they tend to crap every where when you hit them.

Ok, Furphy, let's play my animal does greater damage than your animal.

...

That picture is rather famous.  Deer, caribou and moose are to be watched out for on the road.  Many of us in this province try to stay off the roads at night for this reason.

Oh, PD, item for your fav. menu.

LK. Hit one of those bush chooks with your car and there is going to be plenty of damage. I suppose a full grown bird would be around 25kg. If the bird is running flat out they are fairly low and would do plenty of radiator/bonnet damage. If however it "props" in front of you its tall and there is every chance it will end up through the windscreen.
Furphy. I whacked one some years ago on the Charleville/Cunnamulla rd. No damage to the b/bar but a very dead emu. It took its revenge by laying a couple of eggs down the side of the truck. I knew there was a tap at the C. hall, but by the time we had got there the egg had dried like cement and the stink..... which lasted for weeks cause it was in all the little crevices where you couldnt get at.

An adult moose will run 500 kg or more to the bull and 400 kg or so for the cow.

LK no moose here but there are deer in some areas but plenty of wildlife to keep you busy in the bush emus roos pigs wombats etc and they can all disable a vehicle if you hit them just to give you an idea I counted 186 overnight road kills on a 47km stretch of road between Mitchell and Muckadilla west of Roma thats approx 4 possible car smashes in each km so its lucky that most of the road kills are by trucks who have massive bullbars on the front and they dont even slow down when they hit them anymore but woe betide any normal car that travels in those areas at night because its not if but when.

G'day Kel, I can support your figures, a couple of years ago travelling south on the Matilda Highway from Barcaldine to Blackall we counted an average of twenty fresh roadkills per kilometre, pigs, goats, roos you name it.

We turned off at Blackall and continued south thru Adavale and maybe because of less traffic or that it was unfenced but there were'nt nearly as many carcases.

Many years ago I worked in Darwin for a short while and the drivers of the road trains coming up from down south would talk of cleaning up a buffalo or two. Those pulling three trailers travel at about 80kph and slow down for nothing, you need a pretty hefty bullbar to blow a buff off the road without denting yourself, imagine it !!

Buffalo.  Different buffalo than we have here I expect.  Can you tell me more?  Or point me to what to look for on www.google.com.au?

& how does this road kill get moved out of the way of traffic.  Are there birds, etc who clean it up?  Or what happens to it?
