G'day Bushcamper.... a mouthwatering photo that one. Only thing I could see missing is the bottle of red, but that was probably just in the background out of sight.
Do you still go to Minnie? I first started fishing there in the mid '60,s, free range camping in those days. Put a perforated bucket down in the sand behind the dunes and fresh water every day. Some mornings the tailer looked as if they were in an aquarium as they lifted in the break. Happy days.
Moved away from the area in the 70,s, these days quite regimented (by comparison) and all NP. We also used to fish Station crk. where the old sand mining plant was.
Welcome to the forum, you will find yourself amongst like minded folk.

As you can see these photos were taken about 2 weeks ago on a 2 night camping and fishin trip I had with the young fella. Fish photos what fish ??
I like to line the CO with foil shiny side down to make easy to remove the dead chook or whatever  from the CO. I leave plenty up the side to hang onto to remove cooked feast.
Shiny side down I find refelects the heat from the bottom, normally the hottest part,  as can be seen the bottom was slightly charred.
I just gave the dead chook a good spray of cooking oil, a couple of shovels full of good coals top and bottom, then went fishing for about two and a half hours, came back and it was ready.
The last photo was a set up but I honestly only got enough for a sanger out of it.
He can eat that growing boy of mine

Thanks for the welcome guys, there's allot of interesting stuff on this site, I'll be checking in on a regular basis.

Mikel, sadly we don’t get to Minnie Waters these days, we drive past a couple of times a year and that’s as close as we’ve been since 1978.

There was sure to be a few beers and a red cooling in the fridge. Nothing like sitting around the fire with good friends and your favourite beverage.

I have never used anything in the bottom of my camp ovens (other than flour, water or oil) just sounds like more work.

With a cast iron oven I don’t put any coals underneath, only around the sides and on top, the bottom gets hot enough.

My Bedouries are a different story, because they’re thin with a large base they don’t get hot enough in the middle so I put a shovel load under the centre.

G'day Bushcamper, I don't like to give too much away but when I'm cooking chooks or a piece of roast meat I always line my oven with baking paper, it makes cleaning up afterwards easy.
With damper or cake I spread a generous handful of flour in my pot, which of course is on coals, when it turns tan and begins to craze I drops me damper mix in and about 30 minutes later try it with a skewer, should be pretty close to right.
All my pots have legs and I've never had problems with a hot spot underneath, a half shovel of good coals spread underneath with a shovel full on top with the pot next to the fire, turn the pot a quarter turn every ten minutes so's it does'nt burn on one side and yer cookin'.
Bedouries are different again, they tend to put out the coals they're sitting on so I use a stand I made from light reo rod. I much prefer my C.I. pots.
