Yeh, check the fire on the left here,
we didn't need petrol to get that one go'n
If I recall I think it was dried grass & leaves too.
The old hollow log standing upright in the middle works a treat after dinner.

We also use a few twigs & a few sheets of news paper, & have done the old through a tin of petrol on the wet smoldering fire, not tip it on but through the whole tin in.
My mate from the volunteer firies showed me how they start back burns & worked great on wet wood, he had one of those drink bottles from a take away shop, the ones with a top nipple type Kiss he put half deisel & petrol like what was mentioned earlier, then you use the squirt bottle to spray it strait onto the damp smoldering fire, it burns slow with the deisel, he said his brigade do it all the time.
personly i like the whooof Cool

As an ex-firie I can tell you the mix for drip torches used to start back-burns etc is:  75% diesel 25% petrol.
I use to goose it up a bit, about 50/50, means you have to walk a bit faster (LOL) when lighting up dry scrub.
Personally I think petrol is dangerous as a fire starter and use leaves 'n twigs when I'm camping but to each his own..... as long as you don't burn me out !
BTW most firies are pyromaniacs and love a good fire and driving the BRT (Big Red Truck)
