Happy New Year to everyone.  Once the heat dies down and we head bush I am ready for some more practice camp cooking.  I feel I am very much a learner at the moment.

I have a cobb and two small dutch ovens and am pondering if I would get use from a Bedourie Oven as well.

Probably my most popular results todate have been with a sour dour bread.

I have already picked up some ideas in here and thank you all for sharing.

Welcome Carolyn
Many members have Bedourie ovens me included a useful oven in the bush in so much as you can use the lid and the base at the same time on an open fire as you can do with C/I ovens. I find Bedourie a good back pack oven,Nice and light.

Thanks Muzz, one of the things I realised after reading a lot in here was that although the Cobb eventually does the job its slowness is due to the few beads it requires, just takes hours longer.
I did test out their propoganda that 9 beads would cook a roast, a bread and butter pudding and a damper.  It did all of that but I was ready for bed way before the damper finished off cooking  Cheesy

G'day Carolyn . Gee I don't know why it takes you so long , I use a "Camp Oven Mate" which is basically the same to cook on my patio. As it minimises heat loss it uses half the amount of heat beads but cooks in the same amount of time if not less.
I cook a large damper in a 10.5 " oven in 35/40 minutes, six beads on top, four under using the 12" Camp Oven Mate, it's so good I'm thinking of buying a bigger one so I can use my 14" oven in it !
Look them up under Southern Metal Spinners.
BTW they're CAMP OVENS....

When I die I hope my missus doesn't sell my camp ovens  for what I told her I paid for them. pd

PD thanks for that, I checked them out, lot of good points in theory, once the Cobb cracks as I am told it eventually will I might consider one, but after the inital outlay on the Cobb paid by my daughter (gift to me for Mothers Day) I will be using it until it dies.

A Cobb is another form of cooking equipment.  Initially (mine) it was made in a kind of plastic but now they are using metal, I believe the mesh is not that efficient and most now add a "bra" to stop the heat escaping.

After researching in here and on the web I think the Camp Oven Mate has a few advantages over the Cobb and I have just ordered one with a Bedourie Oven, once they arrive I will let you know what I think.

I have done a few good meals on the Cobb but it was trial and error for sizing and times but I guess that is the same with all cooking.

I recently cleaned up my HD and cant find all my previous Cobb food photos.

Do I get a commission for bringing the topic up?  Cheesy.  I have a feeling there might be a second one for sale after I get my new equipment Grin
