They spoke with awe about it once,
They talk about it still,
Two ringers 'round a campfire
With heaps of time to kill.

Now both thought highly of their dogs,
And decided to compare
Their intelligence and attributes,
To see how each would fare.

The first said "Stump's a canine prince,
He'll do anything for me.
If I haven't got a spoon,
He'll find a stick to stir my tea."

The second said,"That's nothing,
My Blue's a better hound.
I've just to speak of breakfast
And he'll see what's to be found."

At the mention of that word,
Blue was off like he'd been taught,
Came back in next to no time
And dropped an egg into the quart.

He lay and watched the billy boil,
And when he'd cooked the egg,
He dropped it at his master's feet
And stood upon his head.

The first one said, "That's pretty good,
But why's he gone bum up!?"
"Cause the egg'll burn my fingers,
He knows I've no egg-cup."

Mark Kleinschmidt.

Hope you enjoy it
The Roosel

Old father-in-law had a dog like that.  Every time the old fella reined in at evening he would start running around looking for firewood, then grab the quart off the saddle and duck down to the creek and fill it up.  He too knew the old boy loved a boiled egg at night and did the same trick with the egg.  Perhaps he was the 2nd ringer in Mark's tale.   Wink

G'day Skip.  Published eight books so far mate.  Latest one is Keeping the Culture.

Published a few Bush Poetry and Bush Ballad CD's as well.
