Wonder who else watched the doco. on ABC tv tonight?
What a hoot, how could anyone become so bemused by such a wonderful, home building, family orientated bird? Undecided

They ain't stupid either, moving in amongst all those mainly vegetarian folk, the male birds can live their life with a harem of hens building a block of flats that human intervention has little impact on. Cool

I have known on occasion the same scrub turkey's can and do suffer an accidental death, and that also with my belief of not wanting to waste things can report they do cook up very well in the old CO. Wink

And if one of their blocks of flats happen to be located just over the back fence (as against in the back yard) a nice fresh egg or two cooks up pretty well also. (oops, I didn't say that)  Lips Sealed

I missed that show on the ABC... have seen other shows in the past. Scrub turkey's must suffer from extreme stress, I have seen them drop dead from a apparent heart attacks or sun storke Cry well waste not whant not Tongue

Often wondered about the culinary properties of said bird?

Does one have any tips for dealing with a poor over stressed or ailing Turkey?? Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Hi Mikel,
I missed the doco also but will watch for a repeat-sounds good.
Yeah I can back you on the 'ol scrub turkey cooking up well. It used to be fairly common fare whilst living at Almaden. I saw my mother shoot one once and when we recovered the said bird, we could not find any bullet wound.
I can remember that had everyone bemused and the most common reasoning was the bird overstressed and carked it.
When it was taken home Mum became a Cult Figure due to the fact the bullet did in fact hit the bird and as it had been a rear end shot the bullet had struck the "Diamond Dot" and had exited via the mouth chipping the beak on the way out.
It was talk in the houshold for quite some time & the bird was quite tender too.

All the best
The Roosel
