Was wondering around the country markets today not really looking for anything and found a copy of The Coronation Cookery Book compiled by the Country Womens Association of New South Wales.  The book was originally published in 1937, then again in 1938 and again in 1941.  This one is the 1941 edition.

I have actually been on the lookout for one of these for years.

No processed food in these recipes.

Cost me $10.00  Grin

Interesting that we all enjoy the enchantment of old cookbooks!
I am reading a book at the moment put out by the Queensland Museum and it is a collection of recipes, bush tucker and CO recipes etc from the days of European Settlement through to the early 30's . I have scanned and posted a picture from it's treasures and can place more if anyone has some requests, This picture paints a thousand words I reckon.

All the best

My grandfather was a self taught cook and made his living cooking in pubs and clubs etc.  I was given one of his books but have passed it on to my 2nd daughter.  It was a great read and the quantities enormous.  It was supposedly on how to manage economically but would start by saying crack 20 eggs.....

I was one of the generation of females who had to learn cooking in their first year at High School and we used The Commonsense Cookery Book.  I think these are still around and for basic cooking would still be hard to beat.   I always pre made whatever was listed for the next class and my father really enjoyed all the old fashioned recipes.

Not so sure about that Muzz,
I have only ever owned one, Jack & Reg Absoloms camp oven book & even then I don't think I have ever followed a recipe of any sort, just use Ideas from here & there, methods probably more so than ingredients.
Although lately I have been taking notes from the lifestyle food channel on specific spices used in Indian cooking, I think the Indians are the masters of spice,

Mick.
