G'day All,

Does anyone know anything about the Fremantle Foundry in WA? Like what years they may have produced camp ovens? I may be able to get my hands on a Fremantle Foundry camp oven.

After a phone call to them, The bossman of 52 years said he has never made a camp oven in that time, He thought it may be well over 100 years old as the foundry was established in 1890. They lost all their records and paper work about thirty years ago when they were broken into and cleaned out of nearly everthing.

Any info much appreciated

Thanks

Jono

Thats interesting Jono.

A while back I was trying to find out some information on a New Zealand made camp oven and they also told me that a fire had destroyed all their records.

You could try the Fremantle History Museum http://www.fremantle.wa.gov.au/things2c/html/history_museum.cfm

G'day all

I made the 700km round trip today. I picked up a Fremantle Foundry camp oven from an auction. The lid is rusty but otherwise in pretty good condition. I paid $250 for it. I just had to have it seeing no-one knows about them. I missed out on the 14inch Furphy, It went for $400 dollars "apparently". Angry I was the final bid at $350 and thought I had it in the bag until I went to pay and collect and they told me there was a phone bid for $400.  AngrySomething fishy going on I think.  Angryenough to make me mad after driving that far. Angry Angry Angry
Also picked up a "Simpson" brand Tin, Thought it might be handy for something at $30.

Here's some photos, May be a delicate cleaning mission on tomorrow.

It reads "PRODUCT OF E & G FOUNDRY FREMANTLE 12"

...

Hardly a 12, Maybe 1912

...

Pretty good nick inside. Notice the wall thickness variation. (Bodgie) But I'm happy with it.

The "Simpson" Tin

...

Any thoughts?

Cheers

That oven is unreal Jono! A great piece for your collection and a great buy to match. I don't suppose you asked the vendor about what the oven's history might be?
Here's some information on Simpson & son who made that tin you picked up they also made camp ovens.
Astro.

Hey Mick

I just used a little flat screwdriver to scrape the rust off from around the writting then the old wire brush in the drill trick. It's my new Pride and Joy, Very happy with it.

Cheers
