I just about always use spray on Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Its so easy to use all over ya camp ovens, When ya all done with dinner give em a hit, put em away, to easy. Seems to do a good job of seasoning as well

Hardly a 12, Maybe 1912

The 12 on the lid has me beat Huh the top of the pot is 16 inches in dia. the bottom is 14 inches.
Does any one have any ideas or thoughts on what the 12 may be for?
Did they measure the ovens differently back in the day?

Cheers

Jono,  in N. America, cast iron items had product numbers.

Griswold had one Tite Top Dutch Oven, where the lid has a number 10.  Actually, that's for the 12" oven.

Go figure.

Cool

They may have made a mistake, should've had a 6 instead of a 2.

Been trying to find out more on the history of the oven, Received a little bit of information. It's a start. This news clipping is from the Fremantle City Library. They have some audio taped interviews they are going to post to me, Should be interesting.

Quote:
Hi Jono,

Yes – I think that it was actually the E & G Foundry that produced the camp ovens, not the Fremantle Foundry. The ovens may have had Fremantle stamped onto them as being the place of manufacture.

I cannot copy the entire oral history unfortunately (there are 6 tapes), but I have copied the sides that have any mention of the camp ovens for you to listen to. If you send me your address I will post it off to you. I have also scanned a news clipping about Gran Hickling which may be of interest.

Kristi

I'm not sure how to make it more legible, Help Derek???

Jono,

In this software, if you have an image that is full sized text, to a jpg image and attach it.  We will see part of it in the post, but if you click on the paper clip, we can see the full-sized image on the web.

Undecided

Jono,

Hopefully, this screen capture will show you how.

In your reply screen you have a place that says attach and in line with that the frame for the path, the the word "Browse".  Click on the word browse and to to the file name in your computer, highlight, click on open and there it should be.

If you're over 99 kb, it's going to squawk, I think

The best thing to do with large documents so that you don't lose the imaging is to email them to me in their original size and then I can manually upload them and put a link on the site.

Typical of this were Mick's drawings of the camp oven and cooking table.

Cheers
