G'day folks,

Ya all sound,I said,YA ALL SOUND,like down to earth sort of humans so I joined the first night I found ya all.The missus and me are gonna buy a LWB coaster or close when we sell the house and work/travel around our exceptionaly diverse country for a bit,looking forward to burning heaps of food in da CO on the way.We have never used one,I can cook just about anything on the ol BBQ so maybe I won't be burning to much in the CO with the talent I have seen so far.Cheers,Glenn & Jo.

   Somewhere near Wazza,Ipswich.

Sorry if I have been a while getting back,but I'm hooked up in reading everything here,even the old stuff from day dot.Bought 2x4.5 Quart CO's from"Upper Mekon delta"9 3/4"x 3 3/4"deep.BCF.Cheap as chips,hope that dosn't come back to bite me,lucky if thier 4mm thick,5 if I'm blinder than I thought.

   I'm gonna try an old bushies trick to season them.Ya rub oil from gum leaves all over and put in open fire till smoking out.When the smoke starts to clear,ya throw a s##T load of kero on it.Hang about,he's still alive!.Na,ya let the missu's throw a s##T load of kero on it.Then ya go accross to the pub and order a mix grill at the counter.

   My main worry is that being so thin,It might not have to be so hot when seasoning them.Being from upper Mekon delta an all.Does this mean less beads as well?

Never heard that one for seasoning before. Wouldn't the kero taint it ???

You will most likely need about the same amount of heat beads as most cast iron ovens.

I can't see using Kero. Heck, why put any oil or such on it you wouldn't eat.

Look, I use plant oil, olive oil, walnut oil, etc and I put it in an oven just over 400'F for 1.5 hours and let the whole thing cool. Repeat 2x more.

& I do not get an odor.

never heard of that before mate. I know if you cook on a Weber BBQ before the fire lighters have burnt out the Kero taste contaminates the food and makes it inedible. Smiley

Having said that who knows what tricks the Bushies/Drovers used to improvise when they didn't have things at the fingertips. Smiley
