Congrats Derek, Smiley

I suggest that you have an armed guard to keep watch on it at CO events. It already has legs, but it just doesn't need to go on walkabout without you. Sad

It would be nice to have a 5" of my own, but I am not holding my breath. The 6-inchers are doing me just fine right now. Grin

Best, Duncan

Derek,

Congratulations on your newest addition! As a cast iron addict, I'm sure it will be one of the gems of your collection. I was fortunate to get one before they became outlandishly expensive. I've quit taking it to events for fear of it finding a new home. When I want to display a variety of ovens, I use my Camp Chef as the "baby" oven.

What's the first thing you are going to cook in your new oven?

Joanne

I LOVE the Furphy ovens you guys have. Are they the ones that are so expensive? Is there any practical way for someone in the states (ME!) to buy a Furphy?

G'day joanne, 99% of the Furphy ovens around now are the "Made in China" variety and from what I've seen a bit on the rough side with very short legs and often poorly fitting lids. People selling them now are trading on the fact that most people don't know the difference and think they are buying a genuine old Furphy when in fact it was made overseas since 2000.
All the Furphy pots I've seen on eBay in the last twelve months have been the Chinese ones and have gone for almost double what you can buy them for new in camping stores.
I'm always on the lookout for good old pots on my travels but let me tell you they're few and far between and Furphys are even scarcer LOL.

When I die I hope my missus doesn't sell my camp ovens  for what I told her I paid for them. pd

Hi PD,
I'm actually coveting the old ones. I'm doubtful that I'll get my hands on one, but they are really great looking ovens.

Well you know what it's like.  You decide to buy something and during the conversation one thing leads to another and before you know it you have bought more than one.

Well that's what happened in this case.

I badly wanted a 5" Lodge and bought it.  The guy who helped me knew I wanted a 6" so offered to help me get one.  Then further into the conversation he mentioned another small oven that I might be interested in and before you know it I was in hook line and sinker.  Grin Grin Grin Grin

Here is what is heading my way now:

1.  The 5" Lodge we bought off eBay
2.  A six inch Lodge
3.  A 5" Limited Edition Camp Chef especially produced for the International Dutch Oven Society.  Only 500 of these were ever made and this one is serial number 300.

Gawd, is this obsession ever going to stop  Roll Eyes
