Green here  Cheesy funny how things can snowball sometimes, good luck to you Derek, I am still waiting to see the money taken from my bank account for my 6".  I had an email the order was accepted but wont expect it till 8 days after the money is gone.  The 5" looks a lot smaller.  I think the actual measurement for my Lodge 6 is 6 3/4".

Joanne I  think most of us would prefer an older camp oven but there are quite a few of us looking these days and I think the word has got around  Cheesy.  I mix with a lot of seniors and keep asking if they have any they don't use any more but most seem to have got rid of them years ago.

Same here Carolyn, I'm always on the lookout for the very elusive old camp ovens and people often say to me,
"Oh yes, my oldies had a few CI pots, they probably went to the tip when we cleaned the house out."

I wonder how many good pots ended up in landfill or rusted out as a water bowl for the dogs ?  Oh it brings tears to me eyes.

I remember talking to an elderly lady at Culcairn in Southern New South Wales.  She had a collectibles shop.  She was telling me that across the west, particularly the Riverina, that a lot of the old stuff had been thrown down the old homestead wells.  This included camp ovens as well as other old cast iron.

On top of that iron mongers were paying top dollar for Aussie cast iron items, due to its quality, to send across the China to be melted down for new stuff.

Kinda makes you shudder doesn't it.

Can remember in the 70's blokes were going round the old Stations and cleaning out the property dumps of the cast iron including old engines etc left nothing behind

Still going on Furph, I was in Adelaide recently and saw semi's loaded with scrap steel going past, my mate who lives there said,"There goes more steel , it's all being gathered from rural properties and sent to China for recycling".
