Received an email the other day asking if I could identify this camp oven. It is different to anything I have ever seen before.

The guy got it off an old Aboriginal Elder at Casino who said it had been in his family for a "long time"

Only have this one photo but have asked for more.  It does have three legs.  Going by the photo I would say 14 or 15 inches across the top.

Anyone seen anything like it in their travels.

It actually makes me wonder just what really is out there in the way of old camp ovens.

I saw a very similar lid in the settlers museum in Springsure (Qld) Couldn't get it thru the mesh cage protecting it, ............. only joking, it was about 12" from memory.
Like you Derek I wonder how much old stuff is still around. Talking to a farmer near Goulburn at the weekend and he was saying it's a waste of time going to country auctions and clearing sales looking for camp ovens, dealers have them all covered and will outbid you most of the time.
I have sent emails to land agents who have listed ovens in their clearing sales ads in "The Land" newspaper asking for more details, they didn't bother answering.

When I die I hope my missus doesn't sell my camp ovens  for what I told her I paid for them. pd

Always be on the lookout for the things you want. I got an 8" & 12" Furphy without really trying. I was just in the right place at the right time.
An interesting lid on that one for sure. Hope someone can shed some light on it.

I came across one of these ovens on Saturday night at a Cook Off at one of me mates neighbours house, I tried to persuade him to sell it to me but he wouldn't be in on that. It was about 12" but that's all I can tell you..... the beers took oven and forgot to check it out before we left. I will investigate further

Cheers

It looks to me like a wee tiny little spru in the centre of that base.

Any pics of the back of that lid so we can check out details like that by photo?

Undecided
