Like anything I suppose an oven is worth what a buyer is prepared to pay for it but is there any guide ?

What is a Metters 10" in average to good condition really worth ?
          A Metters 12"  ?
          A Metters 14"  ?
How about a C C Harding 9", 11" or a 13" .

There must be an indicator as most dealers come in around the same mark on similar pots, sure there are the ridiculous ones but I've bought two 10" Metters ovens from different dealers in the last twelve months for $80 each ..... after a bit of haggling lol.
Saw a nice 10" Albion in an antiques shop for $190 at Easter time, way too dear IMHO. The dealer justified it by saying they are very hard to get !!

What would you pay ????

$80 for a 10" Metters that's okay.
Probably pay a lot more than that for one if it was in good order.

You pay $70 for a Lewis and Clarke at Anaconda, when not on special.
That comes from China and doesn't have Aussie history attached to it.

It all boils down to how much you want it.. Because that will dictate what you will pay for it.
That Metters 18" will set a precedent for future ovens.

Same here PD, I bought my 12" Metters for $85 from an antique dealer, she new she could get more for it but it had been sitting there for over twelve months.

But then look at what it costs to buy a brand new Aussie made oven, The 18" Billmans Iv'e ordered will set me back $350, a bit pricy but with a personalised lid it will be unique.

Then you can look at the cost to cast one, Iv'e been quoted from a couple of foundries the figure of $10/Kg once you have a pattern. The billmans is 30Kg so it fits in this catagory too!

So what's an oven worth, I agree with you Both, Depends on how much you want it!

But $10 per Kilo might be a good benchmark

Mick.

Spoke to John at Billmans when I bought my 12" and he said they make very little on them and initially were only doing them as a sideline.
