I'm hooked on beads.
Had another shot at them today.
3 COs going and had a ball.
Very successful
From start to finish all 3 cooked in less time that it takes to get a decent bed of coals.

Moroccan Chicken. Roasted Spuds with sour cream and parcels of cob corn.

Here is the stack..

I knew I should have called around your place today.  Grin Grin Grin Grin

Very very nice Aart.  I see you used the new Camp Chef.  By the way, stop using foil.  Two reasons.

  • Cooking in the oven without it improved the quality of your seasoning
  • Cleaning is as easy as anything with a seasoned oven.  Just run hot water in it and scrub with a nylon brush

A very nicely rounded off meal there though.  I'm pleased the beads are working for you as well.

Thanks Derek

That Camp Chef is a great CO.
Thats the 14" and is a useful size and easy to use.

Very glad I bought it.
Note taken on the foil.
The old chinese cleaned up okay without the foil.

As long as the oven is not overheated, it shouldn't burn on the bottom?

Aart I very much doubt you could overheat it enough with Heat Beads to do any damage to the seasoning.

Remember the Chokkie Sauce Pudding I did at your place.  If anything a sweet sugary sauce should stick to anything but it simply washed off with a brush.

Wow, Aart.  Looks fantastic, bet it tasted good!

I am sold on heat beads too. The chimney works a dream.  3 nights in a row, each night a different experiment.  Has been super fun, especially sharing the fare on the forum.

It all looks fabulous Aart.  Thats my next challenge a stack.  I used the other half of the cake mix last night in a bigger CO it must be about 8" and that seems about right for that mixture, but I did use foil  Roll Eyes.  I am wondering if we need to keep one CO for savoury and one for sweet sweet stuff.  Its a no frills situation here at times and although the self saucing pudding with black cherries tastes rich and fine alone, ice cream, cream or fresh fruit would make it even better.

I'm with you on that.
The Lewis and Clarke 14 for all meats.
The cheap chinese 12 for veges
and the other smaller cheap chinese for desserts.

Hey Carolyn

I must agree those strawberries look a little cut and paste.
Does make it look good though.

How?

Use an old penny on a very short loop of chain.
Attach to the lid and handle.

Or if you don't mind marking the CO.
A small engraving on the botton and insie or edge of lid.
Only has to be very very small.

I wasn't trying to make out it was anything more than staged strawberries sorry if my comment was mis-interpreted.  I used what is called tube in psp to pretty it up a bit as I had nothing on hand in the house.  The exercise was more to see just what size CO fitted 1/2 packet cake mix and the approx 8" was fine with one full tin of drained pitted cherries.  Just not very eye appealing.

Goddamn IDIOT!!! Angry Angry
Me I mean, not having a go at anyone else.
I went against my own rule of not using cheap heat beads tonight and ended up finishing off in the kitchen oven.
Thought I'd get away with it just to use up the cheapies I had left, not so. Cry
Teaches me a lesson for being half Scottish and tight fisted eh?
Not to worry I'll have to make up for it tomorrow night. Smiley Smiley
