I picked up another thumper of a Bass last night, 38cm's which is not that big but he was as "Fat as Mud" & whent hard when hooked (as Bass do)
but the action did not stop there, as we were leaving, my fishing buddy drove/reversed his Falcon off the side of a cement causeway & left it sitting on its guts with the right rear wheel swing'n in the breeze with about a foot gap under it to the next level, after 1 1/2 - 2hrs jacking & packing with rocks we finally got it off,
This makes about 10 Bass this season in the 38 - 40cm range along with alot of smaller ones.

I'm hear'n ya,
he's a bloody classic, never a dull moment, he's one of those good harted, nice blokes who is just bloody hopeless or accident prone & if s&%t is going to happen to any one, it will be him!!
The worst part was that I had only taken two bourbons with me & paced myself just right, when he got stuck I only had one mouth full left, so to be busting a gut trying to get him out without a beer was do'n it a bit tough!!!

Mick.

Good looking fish Mick.
This hot weather should be livening them up.

They go off the chew up here during the first sign of cold.

Thanks Mick,

I have a secret weapon lure, I call him "Froggy", and mate I kid you not, if there's a Bass around he'll get it.
It is home made and I have regularly outfished all others with me using it. And you know what he isn't a frog// go figure. Grin Grin

Here you go Mick the secret weapon!!

Gee 'ol Froggie has pinned some bass in his time.

...

Here is froggie flanked by two lure legends in Oz Frog (in my opinion the best fresh water colour scheme there is)

...

I am yet to see any lure with this slow rolling action. Bass love him/YellowBelly are rather fond of him too.

I've caught 'em on live worms before Derek. I just pierced the worms (African Night Crawlers) through the middle once and left the bit wriggle around and used about six of 'em.

SBB, used to see Crickets for sale at the bait shop! I have seen them for sale recently at the pet shop, apparently they have specific uses there too (very expensive)

I used to see heaps of them around the wood heap with the snakes as a kid Smiley Is there a way to trap these little guys?

I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but with people using chemical to control lawn grubs I don't hear too many around my place!

Fresh water shrimp are good too, & easy to catch in shallow flowing rapids.

To be honest Skip I prefer chasing big flathead when fishing....differnt kettle of fish all together......however with Bass I have seen my Mrs using crikets outfish mates who use lures 5 to 1 at times.....annoys hell out of them as they have all the flash gear ......she with hand line and crickets.  She scrounges around under rocks and old logs to find them.

I like Flathead as well.
They can't resist anything pink.
Like to catch them on soft plastic.

Real frogs are good for bait...I'm told by some old timers.
Never tried it myself.
Those surface poppers work well at night on my local patch.

Aart a feed of fresh flathead fillets is pretty hard to beat. We get some beauties here in the Richmond River at times, I like to troll for them with lures (River Rats mainly)......and yes they do love pink. Had a few goes with soft plastics but never had much luck.

Remember years ago as a kid going on my first overnight fishing trip with the old man and a couple  of his mates , was about 10.
I was in the back of the old Bedford along with lots of tallies, kept cold ? under wet potato bags.
Bait was live frogs lightly pinned through the skin using set lines with a big cork float.

A half cooked feed by a half pissed bloke was followed by a check of the set lines to drag in the cod.

Every float had the Frog Bait sitting comfortably and safely on the cork chair thoughtfully provided by the fishermen.

True Story,
Sooty   Shocked

The bride and I are going to Saskatoon in Canada next year to visit her cousin.
Her husband hunts, fishes and does taxidermy.
he has a device that you sit in and float around the lake in while fishing.
Its not a boat...cross between waders and a life jacket.

I can't get the thought of that big groc in the movie Lake Placid..outta my mind.

Nice looking fish Reb....

Ok they call them crappie because they are a mix between a bass and a brim witch is called a sun fish, The perch comes out of this because of the black dots on them . the fish has the best taste i have ever eaten and they are hard to find and to catch you have to use live bait minnows to catch them with they grow to be about 2 to 4 LB pure white meat. And as far as the hunting around here we have wild hogs Quail and  Dove, Deer.Rabbits, Squirrels , Raccoons, Opossums, You can find this in South Georgia .USA the reb

Aart,

They seem to be popular amongst lake fishers, especially fly fishermen who want to venture a little further offshore than what they can cast or wade.

Sooty, I'm hear'n y'a  Grin Grin Grin Grin

Similar story Derek,
One of my first Bass fish'n vessels was a truck tube (inflated by mouth when needed) with a motorbike front tube slung around it (no air in it), the truck tube floating on the surface with the bike tube as a seat, you just sit through the truck tube with the bike tube slung virtically like a kids swing......sitting upright & paddle with your legs.......6 pack Esky in your lap with a few beers & the odd spare lure in it. Haven't had fish like this in years.
Only 5 minute drive from home..gotta luv that.

Better bring ya rod to The Gorge TBF cus the overspill from the dam goes right thru The Gorge, we will be camping about 10 metres away from it.

I camp there regularly KD.
Haven't fished much though.

Spent more time watching the Platypus of a morning.
