Good luck with that KD

At the CQ COG there was a number of young fellas that were not members of this forum.
All mates of Mackeral Whisperer.
They had a real passion for COC.
This piece of Australian history will not die out in the bush.
Glad to see you keeping it alive out your way.

Yeh, good to see these old school ways being kept alive,
Camp Oven cooking is still suprisingly popular, I know from doing the Vacy show each year the number of people who stop for a chat or to ask for tips & often say "I have an old CO in the shed, should get it out & use it again" but these people aside, I know of a couple of dozen people in my area who are right into it, & not interested in computers so a club like that is a great idea, I had considdered doing a regular bash out the back of the pub here too, meat supplied by the local Butcher & pub patrons would order thier meal via the resturant as usual but could watch it being cooked out back sitting around the fire, winter only of course!!
I had spoken to the publican about it, & had yet to OK it with the resturant owner Hmmm time to stir that one up again!

Mick.

KD,
Spent my wedding night at the Kingsthorpe motel, believe it or not.
Was living in Toowoomba and my mad mates searched all over for us that night, but the Kingsthorpe motel was not on their list.
Only a new  motel back then in 1980.
Have had a few beers at the pub as well.
Great idea having the meets at the Pub with cooking out the back.
hope it works out for you

David

Congratulations in making this move.  Set a date and I will see if I can make it.  You are only two hours from me.

I am sure a few others will be happy to come along as well.

By the way this is how the Redesdale Camp Oven Cook Off started in Victoria.  Cooking out the back of the pub and now a major event.

Cheers

That is my long term plan Derek, a Kingsthorpe Camp Oven Festival in the Millmerran Australian Camp Oven Festival "off" year.
Although this may conflict with something as ever...............
Hope you dont mind, I DID borrow a bit of stuff from this Forum for the Kingsthorpe COG announcement.

Thanks all comments  above!
Luv my Cobb!

Spoke in person over the bar to the lady publican owner at the Gowrie Hotel/Motel Kingsthorpe at lunchtime today. A tough assignment.
She is very keen and supportive of a Camp Oven meet and further regular meets, will make available a camp oven area for fires.
Well they held a Rodeo there a couple of years ago, so heaps of space out the back of the Pub and Motel.
Just waiting for the announcement in the February local community newsletter, then get some numbers and plan a date.  Will be fantastic if Derek can attend.
More later, it all takes time......
Hotshins thanks for you private email. Will catch up one day soon.
