G'day David
Using the indirect heat method with a weber to roast or bake things I find them very hard to beat.
I dont like them useing the direct heat method to BBQ things.
Ive never owned a cob so cant compare the two.

Many thanks ole Salty, you may have just tipped the scales to a Weber purchase tomorrow - the Weber "Performer".
The Cobb is like a mini Weber.  Has its place for camping and small roasts.
In fact the 'Smokey Joe' miniature version of the Weber does not appear to have any advantages over the Cobb, but is a lot cheaper at $99.95.

I have been trawling this website for ideas on creating permanent and portable contraptions for heating camp ovens

Baldrum
Visited the scrap metal merchant, borrowed a cut off saw, bought a cutting disc for the angle grinder & conned son-in-law to do some welding & went from a heap of scrap to two nice stands & fire places.
I can light a fire in the drums or in the open & carry the coals to the drums.
I left the high backs on the drums as there is a lot of wind where I cook (not mine).

I have gone off to find myself. If I get back before I return, keep me here.

Ye Gods, what a set-up! I wish I was that handy - can't knock a nail in straight.

The competition is getting harder to beat.

Just because I have a short attention span doesn't mean I

This is my setup ,…its pretty rough but does the job….. easy to make and cheap as chips ….more bricks!

What is arranged for the primary fire for coals?
Thinking of doing similar as I picked up a free load of besser blocks from one of those old block barbecues - complete with map on how to build it into a "Mulga Bar-B-Que". The Grate was used at the Kingsthorpe COG.

KD I use heat beads or charcoal on the bricks. If I want to have a fire and use real coals I have another area for that further from the house. Mostly i cook late afternoon or evening ,and as we get a lot of afternoon storms at this time of year the brick set up on the verandah is used more than the outside fire.
