G'day Folks,

I have been trawling this website for ideas on creating permanent and portable contraptions for heating camp ovens.

There are some great solutions to be found in different threads and I thought it would be useful if they could all be brought together.  For example TDF has a terrific paved area with a fire pit and others are fortunate enough to be able to have open log fires; or clever enough like Crazy Dog to be able to manufacture portable CO heaters out of LPG tanks.  I've read a recent post where a Cobb has a tailor-made canvas table!

Derek, if you think this is warranted, could you set up another thread just for this topic?  Some people (me) may find it useful.

I've had problems in the past using an old electric fry-pan with a leg-less CO and received one high-tec suggestion to use a couple of house bricks so the heat beads could breathe  Grin  I have a brazier but am worried about fire bans etc, so I'm looking for a solution that will work in the middle of suburbia.

Just because I have a short attention span doesn't mean I

Here's a PD sollution:

Pre-heating:

...

Starting your briquettes/heat beads:

...

Keeping the wind & cold out with or without coals/briquettes/heat beats/propane:

...

The outside item is a Camp Oven Mate from Southern Metal Spinners.  It also has a lid.

& this whole set up need not be a problem to arthritic knees.  One can fit it in store bought BBQ tables.

Undecided

G’day Baldrum  This is my setup ,…its pretty rough but does the job….. easy to make and cheap as chips ….more bricks!
The bricks are all dry stacked “no cement”…. I prefer to think of it as fully adjustable or a work in progress rather than unfinished.
Ingredients and cost :
1x 6x4 box trailer of second hand bricks :… Free
28 inch x ½ inch round BBQ plate :.. $15 scrap metal yard
21 inch Stainless Webber grill rack : Wore the Webber out and kept the rack
Gas bottle and hose  $10…. ¾ full at an auction
Round 3 burner gas ring :$10…. another garage sale.
Old lid from a huge wok:…no idea of cost…had it to long
Features :
Built in heat bead starter chimney……. 2 bricks on end with holes in them in a corner , see photo
Runs on gas ,charcoal  or heat beads.
Wok lid fits both hot plate and char grill rack…works like one of those flash hooded BBQ’s
Round 3 burner gas ring  doubles as both heat for BBQ hot plate , wok , CO ect

BBQ plate can be lifted off to make more CO room if needed, allowing space for two 15 inch furphys and a couple of smaller ovens.

Spare bricks for legs and small wind breaks on cold windy days.
Bad points:
Burnt fingers from shifting hot bricks around
Cant use wood fires as it smokes veranda out resulting in cranky Mrs. Sad
The wish list:
Spit attachment ….Astro if ya ever want to sell yours….. Grin
Old fashioned corrugated iron chimney for real wood fires.
