ok ppl, been doing a bit of reading on the site and it seems I need to ask the question...what's the best Co to buy? I've only ever used a borrowed one to make damper and no idea what it was.
'twould appear the name Furphy crops up with monotonous regularity, also Billman. btw is Cobb a swear word on 'ere?

Not at all. You could probably ask Skip for some advice with them....I think he's a bit of a fan of them.

I am beginning to think it should be.  Angry  I saw people taking more notice of them at the Expo today than cast iron.  Anacinda have them on special and they were walking out the door.

Come on, let's be honest, they ain't a real camp oven.  Huh

Now back to your real question.  Wink

You are going to get so many different answers from a lot of people on here for that and after seeing an array of ovens at our most recent COG and seeing them in operation I would find it hard to even answer that question any more.

One thing I have always subscribed to however is that you can cook a small meal in a large camp oven but you cannot cook a large meal in a small camp oven.

I think really that at the end of the day it depends on how many people you are cooking for and also what you want to cook.

I don't think I have answered your question, have I.  Grin Grin Grin Grin

For the best possibly currently available in Australia at the moment I reckon you would be hard pressed to get better than Billmans.  Do a search and you will find quite a few threads.

I am even seriously considering selling my Furphy's, Metters and Albion to finance the purchase of a complete Billmans set. Old for new, so to speak Tongue

Mate the only response is "As long as its Cast Iron", your a mile ahead of the pack, the expensive brands are but the small percentage of the ovens in use.

Every one has a cheap oven they started with, and I beg to be corrected that they cook a meal differently.

The name brands have an advantage in that they come in many different sizes and configurations which allows the experienced Iron Chef to tailor their needs more specifically.

I have a cheapy 12inch oven that no matter what else is being used is always part of the process in delivering a meal, never let me down (except for the time I fell asleep around the fire, cant blame the oven for that, can ya).

Just make sure it's iron.
