Spect you noted the Harding offered does not have a Harding lid!
Seller is prickly and the replies are mainly - "Well dont bid on it" which is very informative

Not exactly the right way to do business.
Guess some people don't really care how they make a dollar.

Not a camp oven, but the principle is the same.
I bought a lovely large Bendigo Pottery lidded casserole on eBay, said to have no chips or cracks, cost $50 + $16 postage:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180384308639&viewitem=&ssp...

When it arrived with excellent packing it was found to have two OLD cracks at opposite sides running from the rim to the base.  I was so sad as it was a lovely item, marked "82 and the makers initial LG or LB".
I claimed a refund which has developed into a two week saga.
The seller claims that it was sent in perfect condition. Rejecting my "allegations" and claiming that I made her a liar. My negative Feedback left on eBay made it worse!
To try to resolve the dispute I took the item to several Antique dealers in Toowoomba requesting a written appraisal, none of them were interested. But two did verbally confirm the cracks were OLD. Until I remembered this shop who specialise in china, the owner buys and sells on eBay extensively and was immediately  on my side saying he was sick of eBay sellers, his report and picture is below:

Roundabout Antiques

To Whom it may concern.
I, Michael Neilsen being the owner of Roundabout Antiques, 106 Campbell St, Toowoomba have today(19th) inspected a Bendigo Pottery casserole dish and lid (approximate 30cm from handle to handle external measurement, approx 21cm wide at the top of the base section, and approx 15cm high from bottom to top of knob on the lid when the two pieces are assembled) on behalf of Mr David Cheetham, 3 Emmanulla Drive, Kingsthorpe.
Having had experience for the past 25 plus years in the antiques and collectables industry specializing in fragile collectables I can confidently say the two large cracks which appear from the internal lip almost opposite each other on the dish base section have been there for many years. This can be evidenced by the discolouration of their present condition.
Should any further enquiry in the matter be warranted please do not hesitate to contact me personally.
We have charged $20 to inspect this item and prepare this report as evidenced by our tax invoice number 3661.
Yours faithfully,

MICHAEL NEILSEN FOR ROUNDABOUT ANTIQUES.

My next step is to take this to PayPal and eBay complaints procedures.
Currently the seller has not replied to my emailed report and picture.
Just hope this may assist a fellow eBay buyer, camp ovens or whatever.

KD

yet again my pic has been rejected as too large, I will fwd to Derek for resizing.

Seller claims not to have received my email with the report attached.
Of course she does not have a Fax machine and told me not to contact her again.
I sent the email again this morning and will now start complaint procedures with eBay and PayPal.

I have reported the seller to eBay, "item not as described".

I have now escalated this from a Dispute to a Claim................(significant in eBay lingo)
With various auto-generated acknowledgements from eBay and PayPal.

This may be getting a tad "off topic" for this site.
I will leave it to the Moderator.
A certain member of this group initials MB sparked off my interest in Bendigo Pottery casseroles. Rare as Hens Teeth in Qld. A lovely item.
So I bought a few on eBay, then contacted Bendigo Pottery today and received a very prompt reply:
Hi David,
KC refers to Kenneth Campbell who worked here from 1977-1980. He is listed as a jolley hand so casseroles, breadcrocks and biscuit barrels are most likely products. The dates mean that your pieces are salt glazed and wood fired, everything now gas fired. All of our pottery is meant to be oven dishwasher & microwave proof but as the pieces are second hand we cannot be sure of the integrity of the pieces. Test for soundness before using. Always best to start with cool oven. When cooking casseroles turn the temp down part way through the cooking for a slow longer cook, best results. No cookbooks, any recipes will suit. Bpottery references attached. Core of the current range online at www.bendigopottery.com.au plus large hand painted range only available for personal shopping. Good luck with your collecting.
Regards,Sally Thomson

Subject: BP Pottery marked "KC"

Good afternoon BP,

I recently purchased on eBay a large BP Casserole Dish marked "KC".

I liked it so much that I have bought another 4 "KC" Casseroles off eBay, all different sizes.

Questions:

- do you have a BP cookery book for BP Casseroles I could purchase?

- do you have written advice for care and use? eg: can the Casserole be put in a hot oven or does it have to be put in a cold oven like a Schlemmertopf or Romertopf clay pot

- do you have a written history of BP I could purchase (supplied as an attachment in the reply email)

- do you have any written information about "KC"?  Every time I pick up a "KC" pot I wonder who it was that made it!

- do you have a current brochure for your new products you could mail me please?

Up here in Queensland we dont see many BP items around in antique/second hand shops, which is why I used eBay.

Many thanks,

David C
