I see Astro is advertising a cousin of the pot I bought new in the early 80's. My 'knockabout pot' has had a hiding over the years and it's still going strong. They're a top little cooking pot and a good versatile size at 14", particularly if ya only want to take one CO away campin.  Cool

What's cooking in the Gem Iron SJ ?
Recipe please in anticipation thanks mate

Aart

Aart,

It's one of my own recipes which I call 'double chocolate chip gems'. My wife and son who are chocoholics love it, however unfortunately the recipe is in my head and I've nothing written down.

Give us a week or so, to make the dish again and I will attempt to measure and record the quantities used.  Wink

What breed was the gem iron in the picture?

KD

Not sure of the make KD as it's unbranded, however its identical in every way, to the common old garden Metters gem iron manufactured between 1930 and 1950.  I suspect that it is either an unbadged Metters, or another manufacturer pirated the design.

It would be nice to know who manufactured it, however I'm not all that fussed because the iron castings are fine, smooth and very well finished, which make it an absolute pleasure to cook with.  Wink

I see with interest that the 14" Metters offered on eBay by the bloke who initially offered the mismatched 12" brought $345, gotta be a record for a Metters.

I think that is a lot of freight for the looks of that CO

Photo did not make it appealing.
Can't imagine if the seller had got rid of the rust and seasoned it well.
Got it to look like SJ's cute 12" Metters.
Would have made a mint? Huh
