Here is an interesting quote from an email I got from Furphy some time back

Supposedly, we purchased the Kangaroo Stove Company when we went into production of Stoves etc and we also purchased the 14” Camp Oven pattern from these people. Furphy’s Foundry only made these products for approximately 20 years, commencing around 1980 to the year 2000. So you can be assured that this Camp Oven is certainly a genuine Furphy.

I have never realised it before but was she saying that Furphy only made camp ovens between 1980 and 2000 (by the way 2000 was when they started getting them made in China) and that they are from the molds they bought with the Kangaroo Stove Company???

Maybe it is just me, But I read the quote as being: They only made the "Kangaroo" brand moulded ovens for those 20 years... I might be brave in assuming that the remainder of the CO stable was being produced prior to that.

A furphy, is Australian slang for a rumour, or an erroneous or improbable story. You would never get anything but the plain honest dinky-di truth here... I promise!!!! Yup, hand on my heart, promise, true blue, uh-huh true dinks, dead set!!

Another Furphy Type.
Kez bought me this one for Xmas about 20 – 21 years ago. I Presume this type were cast around 1988-89. I think new price was around the $120 mark….Astro probably has more info on that .
The local camping store was stocking them at that stage. From memory they had two smaller sizes in stock at the time. This type has Furphy written in a straight line , not curved like some others. Also the Number 15 ……but no date of manufacture
It has the standard useless Furphy Stumps for legs. I have two of these….picked the other up for $20 at a garage sale. Knocked back another one a few years ago for $90 and have been kicking my self ever since.

SBB, this is a photo of my base, you can see the gate mark and furphy very clearly. But it has got furphy and Shepparton also which is very fine on the base, plus it has got the 40 mm legs like the one that just sold on Ebay. Is this a genuine furphy or a one made in different foundries?
