Hi Rastas000,

What is your opinion on the Furphy iron, I'm thinking about getting one for my son in Calgery, if it makes crappy jaffles I won't bother.

Cheers
Kate

Are you trying to get an Australian product or does it matter?  Here we have Rastas ordering pie irons from over here, which means he will try out the quality.  & I've noticed Rastas joined RVing Outpost forum, so I'd bet he's tried my first source too.

There are good cast iron items over here for a lot less freight.  Julie Mik, who is a member here, has a store which sells a lot of cast iron in Wisconsin, specifically Camp Chef.  She is experienced in sending to Canada.  This is the pie iron page for RVing Outpost:  http://www.rvingoutpost.com/cooksupplieslist.php?department=Pie%20Irons%20and%20...

Beyond Julie's, Lodge also has a strong reputation for quality cast iron.  Now, at their site http://www.lodgemfg.com/ I couldn't find any pie irons.

I tried other places Cabelas, Amazon, etc. and wasn't sure of the brands.  Generally, if you wanted an alternetive, I'd take Cabelas for quality options.

Both of these RVing Outpost and Cabelas have lots of experience in shipping to a lot of locations.

I am suitably impressed R, a good line up . If I see an unusual one in my never ceasing search for camp ovens do I take the risk and buy it for you if the price seems reasonable ?
Reason I ask is that I saw a CI double in a secondhand shop in Kyogle a couple of weeks ago at $30.00.

When I die I hope my missus doesn't sell my camp ovens  for what I told her I paid for them. pd

I tend to go to the $15.00 per cup including postage as being reasonable. for an unseen JI.

Unless it is a Furphy double square (and then all reasonableness would go out the window)

Have PM-ed my contact details for you..

Cheers

Bob

Hi Little_kopit,

Seeing my son likes all thing Aussie, I asked him if he would like a Furphy Iron his response, yes please., he likes the idea of having a jaffle iron that has a map of Austalia on it along with a Kangaroo & Koala.

When we were in canada last year on the daughter-in-laws parents property my son showed me a stone wall thing he built, in one corner he had placed a rock that looked like Austrlia with a pebble under it to represent tasmania, no-one had noticed ir until I told his in-laws, now it is a real talking piece. picture of wall below

eg: I have to send him Aussie tattoo's for Australia day in Canada (states the best Australia Day's he has been too are in Calgery), shopping list is in place for Aussie fare, top priority Bundy Rum (think you would really need that in the snow)

Some photo's he sent telling me spring is on the way, (Ithink he lies, if there is snow I think it's winter)

He also still refers to Australia as home, eg I'm coming home in December, Yeppee I get to see him in June and then Dec/Jan.

Cheers
