Here is a collection of Rastas' Jaffle Irons and bits

I am collecting any sort of fire side cookers, and believe that they should be used and not just put away...

I will add more as I get time to photograph them....

These are the Jiff Presto series.  Much is unknown about these so far..

...

This one is also branded "Jiff Iron" and seems to be by the same maker by way of the brand font.

I found out just the other day that the double round was also a Trojan brand toaster, and the single is out of the same mould.

Hi Rastas000,

What is your opinion on the Furphy iron, I'm thinking about getting one for my son in Calgery, if it makes crappy jaffles I won't bother.

Cheers

Kate they are really good.

I would take one if I were you but just be aware of the weight.  The handles screw out to make it a nice little package.  I think it would be a great thing to take with you.

Are you trying to get an Australian product or does it matter?  Here we have Rastas ordering pie irons from over here, which means he will try out the quality.  & I've noticed Rastas joined RVing Outpost forum, so I'd bet he's tried my first source too.

There are good cast iron items over here for a lot less freight.  Julie Mik, who is a member here, has a store which sells a lot of cast iron in Wisconsin, specifically Camp Chef.  She is experienced in sending to Canada.  This is the pie iron page for RVing Outpost:  http://www.rvingoutpost.com/cooksupplieslist.php?department=Pie%20Irons%20and%20...

Beyond Julie's, Lodge also has a strong reputation for quality cast iron.  Now, at their site http://www.lodgemfg.com/ I couldn't find any pie irons.

I tried other places Cabelas, Amazon, etc. and wasn't sure of the brands.  Generally, if you wanted an alternetive, I'd take Cabelas for quality options.

Both of these RVing Outpost and Cabelas have lots of experience in shipping to a lot of locations.

I am suitably impressed R, a good line up . If I see an unusual one in my never ceasing search for camp ovens do I take the risk and buy it for you if the price seems reasonable ?
Reason I ask is that I saw a CI double in a secondhand shop in Kyogle a couple of weeks ago at $30.00.

When I die I hope my missus doesn't sell my camp ovens  for what I told her I paid for them. pd

I tend to go to the $15.00 per cup including postage as being reasonable. for an unseen JI.

Unless it is a Furphy double square (and then all reasonableness would go out the window)

Have PM-ed my contact details for you..

Cheers

Bob

Hi Little_kopit,

Seeing my son likes all thing Aussie, I asked him if he would like a Furphy Iron his response, yes please., he likes the idea of having a jaffle iron that has a map of Austalia on it along with a Kangaroo & Koala.

When we were in canada last year on the daughter-in-laws parents property my son showed me a stone wall thing he built, in one corner he had placed a rock that looked like Austrlia with a pebble under it to represent tasmania, no-one had noticed ir until I told his in-laws, now it is a real talking piece. picture of wall below

eg: I have to send him Aussie tattoo's for Australia day in Canada (states the best Australia Day's he has been too are in Calgery), shopping list is in place for Aussie fare, top priority Bundy Rum (think you would really need that in the snow)

Some photo's he sent telling me spring is on the way, (Ithink he lies, if there is snow I think it's winter)

He also still refers to Australia as home, eg I'm coming home in December, Yeppee I get to see him in June and then Dec/Jan.

Cheers

Hi David,

He keeps telling me spring is on the way, I don't believe him at all, I see all that snow and it tells me it's winter.

He is extremely patriotic, oh apart from his wife.

Cheers
Kate

Rastas, reckon you would stretch it to $20.00 per cup in that instance?
Plus postage?

Sorry, that was a bit low.  LOL.

Jaffle irons, Rastas, while we work every weekend on the "area", this fascination with these muffin cookers, can they produce a meal (willing to be shot down),

Unconvinced, all muffin cooker folks , please show pictures, no not the irons, show me the food.

Willing to be converted, please show results , and I will discuss an acquisition with the boys, recipes accepted and they will taste test, them having a refined palette  ????

Rastas
Do you pre heat your jaffle irons before putting the filling in?
Mine tend to stick a bit on the first one but seem to improve with the next one.

Hey Michael,

when I used to work on building sites in winter some of the carpenters would gather some offcuts of hardwood and light 'em up before smoko. One of the boys had a jaffle maker which was shared in turn. I couldn't believe some of the tucker that went in there, left over roast & gravy with the veggies. Lasagne, rissoles, you name it, limited only by one's imagination.I might add the food had always been pre-cooked and almost always from tea the night before.
I saw Greg once reheat his meat pie in one after bitchin' how cold it was, worked really well actually .

You know I never saw that Jaffle maker clean or washed Grin Grin Grin

I have cooked steaks, roasted garlick, made potato rosti, made tea cakes,  rissoles, apple pies and a few bits and pieces like fried onions in a small saucepan that was half of the JI.

Just keep an eye out at bric-a-brac markets and garage sales..  Ebay is a good source, but let us know if you are bidding so we stay away...

Or if you want a CI one, go to any camping store and they will have a square (COI brand) mad in china, but they work pretty well...

Hey Michaelb.....I can remember nights sitting around SBB's pile of bricks with a few jaffle irons, a loaf of bread and all different types of fillings....everyone made their own jaffle and cooked it over the coals.....the kids loved it and so did we....washed down by a few rumms  Cheesy

It's nice to get the kids involved Kez, when we have the G'kids stay I do waffles or pancakes on a griddle and they demolish them quicker than I can make'em. Easy way to fill them up.

Hi Lil,
have you tried the Bundy Red? Real nice drop but too easy to drink too many.
I believe they use Red River Gum to filter it but not sure about that.

All the best

I picked up one of these Toasty's on the weekend for zilch. got it thrown in with some other stuff.

there is one (with the red @ blue wooden handles) on ebay  for 60 bucks, so I did allright.

Thinking of using it this weekend for the beef challenge.

I picked up another near identical Jaffle iron today (one has round rods, one has square rods)

for $10. So with my freebie, I have two of these for $ 5 each.

Pinched your photo Rastas. will add one of mine soon.
