I have been asked to co-ordinate a camp oven cooking competition at the Lismore 4X4 Show in July.  The show is on Friday, Saturday & Sunday and they want a comp on each of the days so will be looking at Friday afternoon, Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.  Might even throw a Saturday morning in if I can.

I am keen to make this something a little different from the traditional camp oven cook offs and so are they.

Soooooooooooo, I am looking at is what can be cooked in the different categories.

WHAT ARE YOU THOUGHTS TO WHAT COULD BE COOKED

I know one of them needs to be damper - plain, sweet & savoury but what about the others.

Rachel and Kim from 4 Ingredients are to be the Judges http://www.4ingredients.com.au/

Please advise dates..........................
Is the c/o cooking to be 4 ingredients?  I think that would be a gr8 idea. No probs if so, particularly with Guinness stew! Smiley

David, the cooking isn't 4 ingredients.  I am looking for categories not actual recipes.  For example that would fall under stew but need to be more imaginative than that.

Show is 10, 11 & 12 July.  Will post up further details when things are arranged.

Damper/breads (as mentioned)
Pastries,
meat dish (Broken into 3 groups....fish/seafood, red meat & Chicken)
Desert dish.
Cakes/biscuts.

Or for something a little different
Game
- Croc, Roo, Goat, Rabbit, Camel or Water fowl?
After all CO cooking is traditionally about making use of what you have at hand in the bush???
The trick would be getting onto a supplier!!!

I actually went out with the shot gun to try to get some ducks for the CO on Sat, morning, then found out you now need another 2 licences to do it these days!!! every one wants a slice of the bloody pie these days, next, we will need a licence to fart!!

Q. how do ensure there is not a single duck on your mates property.
A. just put the shot gun in the back of the car!!!

Cheers, Mick.

I think BBC nailed it as far as categories go, comes back to what you cook in the categories and after what was cooked at Thora I don't think anything is out of the question. Naan bread, pavlova, sausage rolls, casseroles and on and on.
I dry mix my damper ingredients and have pre soaked sultanas or dried tomatoes in a jar to save time, same could be done for other dishes.
Sorry I won't be there, I'll be down in Vic for the COG.

When I die I hope my missus doesn't sell my camp ovens  for what I told her I paid for them. pd
