One cannibal to another:  I never met a man I didn't like!

What did the cannibal get when he was late for dinner?
The cold shoulder.

South African Potjie cooking class:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwip7xW4QSc&feature=related

A bit slow, but informative.  At least we now know how to pronounce Potjie!

I have made contact with the Toowoomba South African (Afrikaaner) Support Group.  Had an email chat.  Very interesting, they have Potjie cooking socials. I am trying to interact COCIA members with them.
The contact person said he would like to bring his Potjie to a COCIA COG.

More later.

Found out this week the pronunciation of Potjie..  I was told it was POI-KEY...  How the hell do they get that out of Potjie???  Wink

A furphy, is Australian slang for a rumour, or an erroneous or improbable story.  You would never get anything but the plain honest dinky-di truth here... I promise!!!!  Yup, hand on my heart, promise, true blue, uh-huh true dinks, dead set!!

Confirm that is correct.
But agree.
These are Dutchies.
We hope to have a POI-KEY cook up at the Kingsthorpe Pub soon, have interacted with a SA Support Group in Toowoomba.
Other Pots welcome!

Rastas you are spot on mate..

As for why do they pronounce it that way...

Potje is a dutch work for small pot
Afrikaans is basically pigeon dutch.
The Afrikaners pronounce it Poi-key, coz that is how they abbreviated it.  Just like pigeon english is abbreviated english..very phonetic.
I am not that flash at afrikaans, but I follow it quite well when I hear it spoken around me.
