The Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia are holding the 2009 National Camp Oven Festival at Casino Village (which is owned by CMCA).
"With the Village's purpose-built camp oven pit."
"Register your interest for the National Camp Oven Festival Competitions at:
office@casinovillage.com.au
or phone 02 6662 1069
or fax     02 6662 3222".

I am not sure why the CMCA have claimed this event as National or what the history is. Is anybody going or have any comments?

I am very peed off with this lot.

I helped set up this event back in 2005 when it was agreed to run it on the NSW long weekend in October on alternating years from the Millmerran Festival.

It seems there has been a departing of the ways with the original organisers and they for some reason changed it this year to September still over three days but without a holiday thrown in.

I know travellers who have this on their itinerary yet won't get there this year because no-one knows the date has changed.  In fact I spoke to several groups at Neurum Creek recently who were intending going on the October weekend yet didn't know the dates had changed so now will not be going as there are other events on in September.

A few months ago I contacted the park and asked what was happening with the event.  That is how I found out that it was now in September.  I asked them were they going to upgrade the website that we set up in 2005 and the answer I got was, "Do we have a website"

I see the website has been updated however it only shows the dates and no further information and all links to the previous years have been deactivated.  http://www.campoven.com.au

Will be interesting to see how it goes considering it is only a few weeks away.

I will not be there as I will be hauling in tailor, flathead, dart and whiting off the beaches of Fraser Island.  Roll Eyes

Sorry David, Casino Village is not and never was owned by the CMCA. Initially it was a joint venture by the CMCA and private investors, the CMCA have since relinquished part or all of their interest. It is now managed by a private company, I booked in today and was told it is well booked for that weekend 11th and 12th of September, several caravan clubs are going to be there.
I don't know for sure but I'd guess the Camp Oven Festival was moved forward to Sept. as it clashed with the 24th National CMCA Rally in Rockhampton, 28 Sept to 4 Oct. Just me 2 cents worth.

When I die I hope my missus doesn't sell my camp ovens  for what I told her I paid for them. pd
