Today I thought I would try to make a date roll in the camp oven, I turned out ok for the first try, other than over filling the cake tin. Next time I won’t put as much in, I think only about ¾ full should be right. As I only had Golden syrup no treacle I used that instead, otherwise it should have been a little darker.

Date Roll

Ingredients

2      cups S.R. flour
2      eggs
¾      cup of sugar
1      cup of milk
1      cup chopped dates
2      tablespoons of butter
1      tablespoon treacle
½      teaspoon of mixed spice

Method

Cream butter and sugar; mix in the treacle and then the eggs.
Alternately mix in milk and flour and spice.
Fold in dates.
Bake in a well greased log tin until cooked.

I used 6 heat beads on top and 8 on the bottom, and it took around 50 minutes.

Most of the recipes I have seen say 2/3 fill the loaf tins.

Looks very yummy and I too will have butter on mine.  Cheesy
