Just got back from a week up the bush, each day i would use a bird  Winkin the yabbie trap, i would keep about 1/2 doz good size ones, & let the rest go, into the boiling billy for a few minutes.
Then just let em cool for a while before going onto the ice in the esky for an hr
...

I prefer them cold they taste better & are easier to peel Smiley

...

Cheers

Yeah I love 'em too, our Dam's up here are being over run with red claw at the moment and I have been chasing them a bit. The humble 'ol yabbie eats just as well though.

Try them with a bit of garlic and salt in the boiling water...mmmmm, gives them a real nice flavour.

We ended up with about 60 recently from a dam out near Condamine, they were longer than a beer can and fat, had a great feed out of them.

Cheers

Son, if you really want something in this life, you have to work for it. Now quiet! They're about to announce the lottery numbers.

we do all the farm dams we know of twice during summer when we have relatives over so we catch quite a few. we rekon they taste better if you remove the heads and seperate the claws. we do this by draining their water and spraying hot boiling water over them. kills them instantly. we that pull them aprt whilst warm and put the claws and tails in the pot and give the heads to the chickens to clean up.
once done we chiill them in freezer then eat them. it takes up less room then and lot cleaner to eat  Shocked  Shocked

give me a lamb leg, camp oven and a nice fire and ill give u dinner

Havent had much exposure to Yabbies and I was very grateful to Doug who showed me how to clean them.  The catchers were a bit squeamish  Cheesy having dealt with prawns and crabs for a long time this was easy and effective and a quick demise.
