does it make any difference where you put the heat beads on the lid of the co.?

ive seen some cooks put them around the edge and some put them more towards the middle and some have them all over

got me thinking is one spot better than another?

thanks for advice - jack

Dunno what's better. I suppose I'm a spreader. I just try and spread them out evenly all over the lid. Just like you would just spread coals evenly across the top.

When I started to use Heat Beads I used to place them all over the lid however after discussing their use with people overseas I tried the ring method and now pretty well use it exclusively.  I find this gives me a much more even heat in the camp oven.  I also place the Heat Beads underneth the camp oven in a ring just inside the outer diameter of the camp oven.

The Heat Bead Chart on the website - http://www.aussiecampovencook.com/charcoalheatchart.htm was designed for the ring method using cast iron camp ovens.

I too place them in a ring around the edge of the CO.
No real science other than I suspect it would drive heat down through the wall of the CO and provide a more even heat around what is being cooked.

If my thoughts are not correct...
At least it is easier to count how many beads are on top when lined up.
