It was asked today what we are cooking on Australia Day, and John said I was cooking Savoury scones in the camp oven. I found this recipe on the Internet so I thought I might try it in the camp oven.

Savoury Scones

4 Cups                  SR Flour
1                  Grated Carrot
1                  Grated Onion
2                  Eggs
125gm                  Grated Cheese
Strips of Bacon      Chopped
Pepper            To taste
Milk

Method.

Mix ingredients with enough milk to form scone dough.
Turn out onto floured board, knead lightly and press out to a 2.5cm thickness.
Cut out with a scone cutter, place on a floured tray.
Cook in a hot oven until cooked, approx 10 to 15 minutes

They were very nice, just with Butter, or just a slice of cheese. The recipe made quite a few scones so I ended up by cooking half in my kitchen oven to save time.

Look great Bonnie, I prefer savory scones to sweet.  I do a phyllo filling with carrot, onion, cheese and the herb used is Sage would go well in these too I think.

I love savory scones with sour cream. I often add a half a tea spoon of curry, and some mashed pumpkin to my scone mix as well.

Never cooked them in a CO though. So that is next on my agenda I think!

Yours look great Bonnie! I bet the ones cooked in the CO tasted better than the ones done in the oven  Wink
