Hello...I have been reading about using heatbeads in an old frypan..well I haven't been able to find one, but we do have a Hibachi thingy hanging around so we tried that out....worked very well but wouldn't be any good if you wanted to use a larger Camp Oven...I don't think

Looks good to me, place two metal tent pegs across the the base and you will get better air circulation and you could use bigger ovens on that set up.

Sundryed and jack
Thanks for your encouragement
As requested here is the recipe :

Black Stump Casserole
Serves 4-6

2kg chuck steak - cubed            4 tspns brown sugar
4 tblspn plain flour                     2 tblspns vinegar
4 large onions - sliced                1 tspn dried mixed herbs
1 can beer - not cold                  salt and pepper to taste
2 cloves garlic - crushed

Coat meat with flour, shake off excess.  Heat oil in camp oven and brown meat. Add onions and cook until clear.  Add extra oil if necessary, add garlic, sugar, vinegar, herbs, salt and pepper. Pour in beer and mix well.
Cover and cook over medium coals for 2 - 2 1/2 hours until meat is tender and gravy is thick, stirring occasionally.

P.S  I only made half quantity which is why the camp oven looks like there is plenty of room.

Geoff Lorraine, and old fry pan is ideal, but any solid surface is as good as the rest, an old cast iron plate from the bbq or on the bbq itself, The hibachi inthe second picture seems to sit on an round base if its a  round bbq base then use that, "side note" we have a round style hibachi what a great thing they are.

When mummsy and Rusty get back from their world tour, we should haver a little get together, they are down your way.
