Found this Tipton camp oven while on a farm stay in country town not far from Perth.
Yes this one a a few others (16" Carron, 14" Albion & two other) were used as plant holder, after asking if he would sell them which was a sound NO, i convinced him that he was committing a criminal offence in using them a pot plant holder at that they should be put on proud display for what they are Angry
After spending a few hour in his shed i found the lids to the Tipton & Carron.

Has anyone got any info on the Tipton camp oven?
On the side it has a Phoenix bird over the name Tipton with 13inch under that.

Never heard of a Tipton Geoff, it's undoubtedly old and cracked or not I'd like it.
I'd be very tempted to keep on his case until he weakens and agrees to sell.

Had just looked at the bird as an eagle.....but yes it does look like a Phoenix. Searched the net and found this in a collectable weights and measures site. It also appears there were a couple of Phoenix Foundrys in Australia in the early days to.
Not much help I know but maybe it might lead somewhere.
COWest any chance of a close up of that logo??
SBB
Jabez and John Whitehouse, Phoenix Foundry, Castle Street, Tipton. The name is seen on iron weights with pre-1878 verification marks, including some with edge- decoration like that used by the Crane Foundry. The name is also frequently seen on 20th century weights, including some brass ones of 2oz and below.

I did a very cursory internet search and found the Tipton Foundry is still operating in the UK making cast iron lamp posts and tree surrounds etc, no mention of camp ovens. As I said before that CO would be one of very few, I've never seen or heard of Tipton before.

I too have not heard of a tipton but then i had not heard of an etna til i dusted one off a while back. They all look like good handy pots that would clean up well, hafta keep workin the seller show him some folding stuff and see how you go.

Thanks SBB
I to found the same as was thinking along the same lines of a Phoenix foundry in Tipton, but can't find any back up to my thinking.
Then again that's half the fun first find a camp oven then find where it came from.
The funny think is i can remember seeing the same image on a camp oven or pot a long time ago but where & when?

This is about the best i can do in a close up.
The other is a phoenix image that looks much the same that was use as in very early advertising
As we say happy hunting
