They are pricey but have excellent insulation, excellent power economy.
If it is not going to get rough treatment then the aluminium models are not as heavy if you need to consider that, slightly cheaper too.

Have to agree, they look the goods alright but have you thought about buying local manufacture?
I have had a 60l. Trailblaza (Norcoast refrigeration, Caloundra) for over 18yrs. which has been 100% reliable.
Uses Danfoss compressor/electronics and has 100mm. of insulation inside a marine grade alloy case.
In power consumption (daily a/hrs.) it is rated as one of the most efficient and very well priced.

I've had an Engel for a little while now and love it but the Lunas look like pretty good gear. By the accounts in these discussions (which you have probably already read) on Exploroz, those that have them are happy with them and apparently if freezer is not needed both compartments can be run as fridge.
Only drawback appears to be a bit dearer than competitors.

was thinking about the trailblazers as they have a good reputation but they are big buggers. Have just recived my dvd off margeret. Mate has one and says as simple as.

I have an Engel that is 20 years old so I know its a good bit of kit. Just gets a bit small at only 29ltrs. I must eat and drink more these days Wink

Re price, dont think it is that bad. Looking at their sizes the 50ltr(with 10ltr freezer), do the math as well is similar in price to an engel 60. Power consumption is supposed to be great.

I am trying to run everything with solar these days so trying to get the best bang for my buck as well. Think if I can get 20 years out of it like my engel would be happy. And at that rate its less than 100 buck a year. Wink

I have a twozone for my 40 litre engel, gives an extra 20 litres of space. It's great for butter, cheese, eggs & meat. The only downside for me is it makes the 40 litre fridge quite high. I like the look of the new ARB fridges have you checked them out?

gday steven, i'm with astro on the engel twozone ive had one for a while and the twozone is great for stopping lettuce, tomatoes etc freezing up in the engel, but having said that a couple of years ago i bought an evakool 47l fridge freezer, best move ive made, the insulation is spot on and if you lose power a bag of ice will see through for 4-5 days (unlike engel/waeco etc) also evakool uses the danfoss compressor

I am a Trailblazer devotee. Over the years we have purchased 10 or more of them, and NEVER had a problem. We have purchased 4x80l 1x100 l and the remainder in 60l. I have NEVER had a problem. You pay a bit more, but if the Australian Army think they are worth buying and use them in rugged environs, then they must be good.

A friend was up the beach at Cooloola (Good Friday am), and his had a problem. He rang Margaret and she did a bit of trouble shooting on the phone. He was off the beach and at Caloundra by 10am (lucky with the tides) and back on the road again by midday. Seems he had drilled a heap of holes in a metal tray in a work area over the top of the fridge and some swarf made its way past the thermostat control to the innards.

For the price of the part, it was fixed. and on the Easter weekend...

I know nothing of the National Luna fridges, but if it is has a danfoss compressor and the insulation is good, it has to be a good start..

A furphy, is Australian slang for a rumour, or an erroneous or improbable story. You would never get anything but the plain honest dinky-di truth here... I promise!!!! Yup, hand on my heart, promise, true blue, uh-huh true dinks, dead set!!
