there may already be a homemade subject on here somewhere so i hope im not doubling up
Ihave two home made pots the first i made myself about ten years ago when my welding skills were not as good as they may be now.
I think it was an old flywheel/belt pulley off a steam engine had a 3 or 4 inch hole in the center that i plugged up and then cut a lid out of about 4mm mild steel plate and bent some flat bar around the outside and welded it all together a ground it back. I have made a stand (not shown) to pput the lid on for a BBQ diamiter of this pot is 500mm or 20 inches with abou 5 inch high walls that are 1/2 inch thick very heavy pot but when its hot it holds for yonks

The second oven is a 14" copy of a metter or like, done a good job all mild steel. I think it was probably made in the mines in Broken Hill. Only fault is the lid doesn't fit quite right and may let a bit of ash in if you lid it with coals. I havn't used it yet so can't coment in the way it cooks but it would be great for travelling.

A lot of interesting things were made in those mine workshops Mook.....a lot of them found their way out the front gate too. Grin

Ive even heard a story that years ago a couple of blokes were making rabbit traps of their own design. Had a"brand name / logo" stamped into them and all. Only a few dozen were ever made and they are now a very sort after Item by trap collectors.

Not bad looking ovens Mook, I've seen a lot worse homemade ones for sale at swap meets, they are often made out of cast iron or mild steel pipe. Quite common are those made out of steel truck rims with a few modifications and a plow disc for a lid.
I've had a couple of attempts at making a stainless steel CO but ran out of enthusiasm and patience.

mook, i made these two a couple of years ago and i had to go find them in the shed, i only used them once and can't remember how they cooked, i do remember in the larger one i had 3 chooks on the bottom shelf and 2 legs lamb on the top.

the smaller one was going to be a type of pizza oven and from memory they neede a lot of heat.

I had a friend who made his own ovens from Holden 14” x 6 ½ “ rims, I don’t have any photos but they were easy to make and they cooked quite well. They were also good to travel with.
He also made larger units with truck rims.
I have a couple of wb 7” rims laying around I should make one up one day.

Cupla ovens on eBay right now, very basic (home made ?)with flat lids but would do the job, pick up only in Vic or I would be interested.

Rufzgutz that is similar to the ovens my mate made, but his were cut so the led was only half that hight and the bottom was a good depth. I think that was why he used Holden rims.
