"Lane Poole Reserve was declared in 1984 to protect the conservation and recreation values of the northern jarrah forest and the Murray River – the longest permanent river in a jarrah forest."  - DEC        [not to be confused with the Murray-Darling system]

Our family spent last week at Stringers camp ground - part of Lane Poole Reserve, 100km south of Perth.    

With only 6 sites in this  'tents only'  loop we were not swamped by large crowds even though it was the school holidays.  
Each site is suitable for groups of 6 - 8 people.  Friday morning saw a 'fully booked' sign added to the entrance so it is definitely a popular spot at certain times of the week/year.

Our reasonably level camp site was equipped with a large cement fire ring with permanently fixed, swing out BBQ plate and kettle hook, and a well maintained wooden picnic table.   A skip bin and long-drop toilets were nearby to all 6 camp sites.  

The river was just a short stroll down a stepped slope with canoe launching area.   Spring rains meant the river was flowing quite swiftly and we were entertained for many hours watching people in canoes and kayaks zoom through the rapids at the bend in the river and along the gentler water near the steps.    (it was way too cold for us to get wet).

We were just up the track from Nanga Brook whose fresh water flows down to meet the saline Murray River.  We collected a bucketful at the footbridge each day - for doing the dishes, flannel baths, hand-washing basin etc.  
 
We were only a 15 minute drive to Dwellingup where potable water is available for a gold coin donation at the History and Visitors Centre.  We refilled our 20 litre cube once during the week, using it for cooking and drinking only.
