I bought a 12" campoven from Southern Metal Spinners today.
Also a 10" Bedourie Oven.just fits inside the CO

can I season them both same way as cast ones..watching tommo's DVD .....they dont look black...or dont they go black till well used and oiled.

and what does salt do in the seasoning process

Dave, whatever you do make sure the spun (pressed) steel is spotlessly clean before you attempt to season.  Had this problem with mine but they will season up OK.  Spun steel needs a lower temperature but an even temperature just below smoke point.  Light coats of oil and you may need to repeat upwards of 6 times.  Make sure it's going black and not staying deep brown.
I don't bother with seasoning the outside of my spun steel as it scratches easily.  I opt to spray with oven black and refresh when needed.
Don't forget that the lids upturned make great frypans.

Hi Ross......I tried seasoning both today.....unfortunately..only had a single gas ring....scrubbed them first.......had a lot of black greasy areas

the bedourie came up better than the ACO....but both only had 2 attempts...

The ACO trivet...though coloured twisted and buckeled.so badly I might not be able to use it

I think I might have to waite till next weekend and cook in them .will be camping..

I think they look good Dave much better than mine, I gave up in the end and they look a sorry mess but still do the job when I cook in them.
