Yep, a beautiful bird Jeff. I stood and watched a small flock of about a dozen of them feeding last week at Dorrigo but no camera.

When I lived in Darwin I spent as much time as I could around Fogg Dam just south of the city and although many birds in and around the wetlands, there were no Gouldians.

I too would like a bigger lens. Only have a 55-250 mm at present.

I believe the Gouldians have increased in numbers from what they were ten or so years ago and they have been seen closer to Darwin. I was just up there for a two week trip Bowhunting and a local took me to the spot to see some Masks and Longtail Finches and he was even surprised to see the Gouldians. I got to see a lot of finches up close while I was up there and the Crimson Finches were beautiful also.

That photo of the Crimson Rosella was only taken with a 24-70 L lens so it is heavily cropped. Since you have a 55-250mm lens I guess you have a Canon gear like me? My mate just bought the new 70-300mm L lens and I have had a play with it and it is very sharp but still a bit short for taking bird photos.

I'm heading out to Cunnamulla in a few weeks so there should be some nice bird life about, there usually is.

Jeff, I have the Canon EOS 550D. It came with the 55-250 as well as a 18-55 lens.

I also saw the Masks, Longtail and Crimson finches at Fogg Dam.

It sure is great seeing them in the wild mate.

The 550 is a good camera. I have an older 40D with a 17-40mm and also a 5D II with the 24 -70mm. I would really like to get a longer lens but oh the dollars.  Grin
