Thanks everyone - I have passed on your comments to the man himself

My Jumbo Camp Oven Mate lid came with square loops and Charlie made a handle for me out of some flat steel so I could lift the lid one handed.  I knew that was what I wanted for the Bedourie too.
I took the Bedourie and JCOM lids to BVA Metal Fabrication, explained the problem, and they happily supplied some 3mm stainless steel wire to make the square loops (in exchange for a lemonade scone recipe  Wink )
6mm rod was used for the handle part of the lifters.
A bench vice and small hammer took care of all the bending needs.

@smokeydk - that is exactly the same as mine. The first time I cooked something it tipped sideways and I ended up with hot heatbeads all over the place.   Hopefully you can't imagine what my firefighter hubby had to say about that idea   Shocked

@Derek -  the crackling was kinda erm just a hint umm blacker than tarmac  Embarrassed
My sister-in-law has now been banned from facebooking me while pork is in the camp oven!  hehehe

The judge's decision is final... unless the 3rd umpire is called for... or a facebook campaign goes viral !!!
