I recently spent eight days out at Cunnamulla with three mates doing some Bowhunting. While out there we planned on doing a couple of camp oven meals but conditions were not the best for having a fire. Strong winds and 2ft tall dry grass everywhere meant no fires. On the second last night the wind had eased a lot so with care we decided tonight was the night.

We had a nice pork roast from my brother in-law butcher and my mate shot a young nanny the first day which provided a nice leg for our meal.

We all gave a hand with the cooking but my mate Gary was chief cook. The leg of goat was done in my 12"oven. It is perhaps what they call the 'Main Roads Camp Oven' or it was possibly made in a foundry at Bundaberg many years ago. It was my late fathers. The pork and veggies were done in my mates 15" no name oven.

The skin of the pork had been pre-cut so Gary rubbed in some oil and salt. It was placed in a hot preheated oven. The leg of goat had pieces of of garlic placed in slots made by the point of a knife. It was put in my oven.

When the pork had about an hour to go the veggies (potatoes, sweet potato, carrot, pumpkin and onions) were put in.

I can't say we are great cooks but we think it was one of the best meals we have had in a long time. Smiley The pork was very tender and the crackle was great. The goat was also very tender and it just fell apart when I tried to cut it.

Here are a few photos.

After our feed we had a relaxing sit around the camp fire under a beautiful clear sky and I took the opportunity to take the photo below. The Mulga tree is illuminated by the glow of the fire and the Southern Cross is visible just at the top left of it.  Smiley

Thanks fellas.

Rufzgutz, The other leg came home with us. I forgot to mention a back strap went in the camp oven with the leg as well. Smiley

Thanks once again.

Aart, yeah it is good goat country. We don't shoot many of the goats as they are worth so much to the property owners now days. He doesn't mind us shooting a few though. We got quite a few pigs this trip (about a dozen) but we only use bows n arras.

I enjoy my time out there and have been going to this particular place for approx twenty years. Lots of great memories.
