I have a Etna (i think) 12 lid that fits but needs a clean up...now i have a moral dillema discard the old lid for a non matched oven or run with the original and use it as an oven only pot?
Q#2

i have had good results welding chip's in lid's with
a gasless mig, only weld 5-10 cm max at a time, time consuming but work's, clean with wire brush in between weld's & grind back afterward's.
this all depend's on size of chip, but have done 1 with about half a 10c piece missing.
some cast iron is better to do than other's but you will
know with first weld Shocked

Thanks LF and 69c
re the simpsonI will try to post a pic when i get a chance.

re the welding... i don't have the missing chip which is about 35mm by 75mm  or 1.5 inches  by 3 inches the nice lady i got it off suggested "just pop some tin foil under it then put the lid on" which would work in an (household) oven, but not for coals, i really want to keep the oven together...but it won't do what i want; ie put coals on the lid and cook like it was made to to.
I could change the lid but its not the same..  does anyone else have a superstition like that or do i have cronic castironitis
i think i need a beer
