It was with great pleasure that I had the opportunity for Rocky Kimball, the manufacturer of the Woody (Camp) Dutch Oven http://www.woodydutchoven.com/ stay with me recently while he was on a business trip to Australia.

While here Rocky gave me one of his camp ovens to try out. As luck would have it Rocky's trip coincided with a Camp Oven Gathering at north Brisbane.

I was determined to try the Woody at the gathering and as I said when I first saw the Woody, "These would be great to cook a lasagne, being square".

Maggie has a lasagne recipe to die for so we decided to try it in the Woody.  This was a big ask for Maggie as it was her first camp oven gathering and also the first time we had used the Woody.

Well to cut a long story short, the Woody proved it's worth and with me doing a bit of stirring of the sauce and tending the HeatBeads and Maggie running with the recipe we turned out a lasagne to be proud of.

The recipe has the usual ingredients but includes mushrooms olives and spinach.

Thanks Rocky for the Woody, it sure will get a workout from here on and also thanks for the opportunity of having you stay for the weekend.

Here is a pictorial of the Woody in action.

Don't forget to click on the photos to enlarge them.

I will over time workout the number of Heat beads required for the Woody. It has a high top so as you can see in the photo I really poured them on.

Not at all Dave. Comes with its own set of plyer type lid lifters that Maggie is using. Even covered in coals was easy to lift

Those who attended the COG can vouch for that.
The back olives made the difference.

Looks like a top nosh there Maggie - Well Done!

I think it will take quite a while for my brain to digest 'square' and 'camp oven' in the same sentence, hehehee

My teenager males and their mates would howl at me if I asked one of them to "get the woody out of the box for me please"  Despite my best efforts - gentlemen they are not!   Sad

I have been wondering if my (really old) cast aluminium pressure cooker could be used over heatbeads.
I guess if the Woody can, my pressure cooker can - as far as it being cast aluminium anyway.
Heat control could be an entirely different story.

The judge's decision is final... unless the 3rd umpire is called for... or a facebook campaign goes viral !!!

Having another browse through the photos ... can you move the base without taking off the lid first?
I saw the photo at the Woody website which shows the 'pliers' being used on the base without the lid on the Woody, but couldn't see how you would move it off the heat without having to take the lid off.
Did I miss something?

A pair of welding gloves and some quick movement!

I'm going away for a couple of days next month withj some boys from work.
Will try  Shehard's Pie and a Tuna Bake in the Woody.
I reckon the Woody will make a good traveller, along with a 12" camp oven.
