Local Dutch Oven Cook Wins Grand Champion Title in Canton,Texas

Terry Cobb of Ponca City and Bill Ryan of Bossier City, La., recently won Grand Champion at the National Dutch Oven Gathering in Canton, Texas.
This makes Cobb a two-time National Dutch Oven Champion. In 2010, Cobb won this title while cooking with Gaye Ann Grace of Newkirk.
Twenty teams from as far away as Idaho entered the Three-Pot cookoff to compete for the honor of being the National Champion and earning the privilege of going to the World Competition at Salt Lake City, Utah.
The three pots consist of a main dish, a bread and a dessert. Cobb and Ryan cooked Bacon Wrapped Stuffed Turkey Breast with the bacon provided by Petit Jean Meats from Morrilton, Ark. Their bread dish was Cottage Cheese Dill bread, and their dessert was carrot cake.
All three dishes are cooked in a Dutch oven, using only coals as the heating agent. The teams were given four hours to prepare the three dishes to be turned in to the judging table at 30 minute intervals.
Cobb and Ryan, known as the Cajun Okie Connection team, are looking forward to competing in the World Competition in March 2013.
