I have yet to collect this so while I have some time on my hands I thought that i would reach out for some opinions and information on the identity of this item.
I had the vendor try the frig magnet on it and  its non stick, so likely stainless steel. What grade , who knows?
My first thought is that it will serve well as my mussel steamer, instead of the wifes pressure cooker Grin

secondly it could lend itself to smoking, although only on a small scale.
It weighs in at 10kg.
The diameter is 30cm, the base is 18cm tall while the main unit is 30cm tall.
One perforated tray has integral legs and obviously the other sits on top.
Apparently the lid is a neat fit with 'a screw' for releasing steam.
What do you reckon about what this piece is and what applications it can lend itself to.
Gawd, don't tell me its Chinese  Wink Wink Wink

My first thoughts on seeing the photos was "crab cooker" but I see you already thought of that with mussels.

Never seen one like it before but looks good.

Hi Derek.
It will be interesting to find out what gauge it is but ar 10kg I would be surprised if it is too flimsy.
I am already toying with the idea of replacing that brass plug with a ball tap..

I will have to look up crab cookers to see the difference.
Likely there are some on here...

So it is a hole-less gas powered pit roaster?    Cheesy
Hearing Kiwi's talk I always thought they were saying HUNGY but it must have been Hangi!

I would suspect 18/10 Stainless Steel... going by the weight of my stock pot and saucepan set

The judge's decision is final... unless the 3rd umpire is called for... or a facebook campaign goes viral !!!

I got it home tonight. It's a well-made home built unit and constructed of good gauge stainless steel; looks to be  1.5mm & 2mm while the base appears to be (using the finger gauge) heavy 4mm, maybe 5.
The 2 burner fits easy into the base; it just needs something bolted to the centre for the burner to locate to.
This is going to be one useful piece of gear. Smoker, hangi, steamer, boiler (if it doesn't leak Wink. I'll test for leaks when I find a seal for the bung).

Any suggestions on a good seal material that will withstand these environments?

My step-grandson made some at a s/s fabrication business in Brisbane and made one for himself,  was selling them for $400.
