The below was posted by Mary on our Facebook page.  Not the first time I have heard of this going on at Inskip and if you read the comments to the story, many others have had it happen to them also.

Be careful if you head up there and don't end up a statistic

Quote:
Hey guys as a matter of courtesy... could I warn your followers to chain everything up when you go camping... We went camping at Inskip at rainbow beach east of gympie and got robbed Thursday night... generator... box of food... box of camping cooking gear...(very expensive stuff including my camp ovens ) table chairs... we had to come home after one night as we never had the funds to replace... We are in our 60's and will think twice before we go camping again…

This always happens in the middle of the night ... we were sleeping not 6 ft away in my campervan and never heard the mongrels... all was packed up and put away neatly in the gazebo attached to the van with 3 sides but 2 doorways and they came inside we even had the generator in a plain box with dirty clothes on top to disguise.... almost everyone in our general area lost something that night... we spoke to the woman at national parks... he who dishes out the permits... and said they should at least warn everyone that this is a regular occourence, and she said 'The locals wouldn't like us doing that it would give the area a bad image'.... HA HA well I think it has a bad image for lack of something being done about this, as there is only one way in and out of inskip by road and surely vehicles monitored at night could be a start... They had been hitting the campers every second or third night last week... they had to come into our confined area to steal our gear... I am still angry and knowing how much it will cost to replace makes me angrier....

Smiley Smiley   hate that sort of ####.  We wentto a truck and ute show today and spotted a ute  fellow taking off all his trim gadgets so he could leave his ute to get something to eat. Got talking to him and they have a big problem with people walking past and pinching stuff in broad daylight Undecided

Surely the local Police could do a night shift over these long weekends and other busy times to try and catch these sods. Angry

shakes head in disgust ...

I have heard of little things going missing - usually during the day when people are away from camp exploring/fishing/sight seeing etc.

One recent incident where a fellow camper had his solar hot water bag taken (only $10 but still...) from where he had placed it in the sun about 10m from his very shady camp site.
He'd only walked to the toilet about 100m away, walked back and it was gone. Not a soul in sight!

Actually coming in to someone's annexe area and taking generators etc is above and beyond LOW!
They must be heavy sleepers is all I can think.

No way anyone can get near our camp without one of us sitting up in bed when the footsteps stop.
I miss my doggie   Sad

The judge's decision is final... unless the 3rd umpire is called for... or a facebook campaign goes viral !!!

All comments are my personal opinion only and/or based on real life experiences.  No debate will be entered into.

You may need something like this.

Portable camping alarm: http://www.campingalarms.com/index.html

Shouldn't have to come to this but sometimes it is necessary in this day & age.

The same thing happens in the Hervey Bay caravan park on the Esplanade.

People come for a nice holiday & they go to bed at the end of the day then wake up to find some scumbag has entered their annex in the night to pilfer their belongings.

The device would wake everyone up in the vicinity of it but the odds of someone busting the thieve/s are increased.

I am from Canada and read this with interest.

I have camped in roughly 1/2 the states of the USA and provinces of Canada in my 70 years.

Last year I camped for 3 months in Australia.

& I don't leave anything outside my camper except a dog traveling companion.  In other words I don't expect humans to be looking out for my stuff.  I expect my canine companion(s) to be concerned with other animals, not humans.

In public sources for this continent I've read about other single females, who park a large pair of boots outside their camper door because they're worried about traveling without masculine protection.  Having been a widow since 1970, that sort of thing has always amused me.

But until I started traveling with canine companion(s), I always stayed in staffed campgrounds.  With a dog, I stop where I find the site campable.

I haven't been to Alaska yet, but there are lots alerts re. bears for that territory.  They are strong enough that I may stop my days travels to cook my food at one place and move to another for sleeping.  In other words, the advice is to not even leave  the smell of food around your campsite.

Undecided

This all reminds me of something that happened at North Stradbroke about 10 years ago.

Ex- cop mate of mine was camping there one weekend.
During the night whilst in bed 3 louts from a neighbouring tent got into his esky and stole, wine, beer and a heaps of posh nosh (like camembert etc)

As he was the only male in his camp he did nothing about it till the said 3 louts were all asleep.

He then came to my campsite and got me.

It was then about 6am.

The louts all drunk and snoring in their 4 man tent.
Mate and I then entered the said tent with big black torches..you know the type we carry at work.

and we wake the 3 said louts. (repeatedly  Grin Grin Grin)

Make a demand for a reasonable amount of cash to cover cost of stolen goods..and advise the 3 said louts that their holiday is over and leave the campground.

Problem solved.
This a true account of the events.
Its the only thing that said louts understand.
Specially when I am so experienced in the art of dealing with this type of $h1t.

I am continually amazed at the power of the Internet.

This was originally posted on the COCIA Facebook Page at about the same time as I put it up here and it has now gone viral.

On the Facebook Page 71,840 people have seen it, 968 shared with someone else and 224 people have commented on it.

In saying that a heck of a lot of people are now aware of the problems at Inskip Point.
