On our travels recently I came across this oven - it wasn't for sale. Anyway I had never seen one like it before and don't recall seeing any photos of similar ones on COCIA so I thought I would ask if anyone on here knew the make of it?

Of course it may be an easy question for the collectors on here but I thought it would be a bit of fun to ask anyway. Smiley

I think way back many small foundries used a common mold to save $$$. I've seen several ovens very similar to the one you picture but without the lid flange being trimmed. I have a "Norvil" oven which is almost identical, very rough casting and the lid is a poor fit, I bought it new over the internet from the foundry...bad choice  Cry Cry Cry.

Thanks for your reply PD much appreciated. Smiley

I do know the make and it is a well known Aussie brand but I have never seen one moulded like this and that is the real reason I posted this up. I was really surprised when I saw the makers mark. Anyway these next photos will reveal all.

Were they made like that or has somebody taken a grinder to the sides of an 'over sized' lid?

The lid and base appeared to be a perfect match LG. As you can see the handle on the lid and the ears are similar looking and I believe they are a matching pair. I have never seen another Albion oven that looked like this. I was hoping some others might have been able to give some more information about it.

Would never have picked it for an Albion.  Mind you the foundry closed down nearly 100 years ago so who knows what different ones they produced in their lifetime.

After talking to some experts  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes and giving it some thought I reckon that oven could be a reproduction. Reason I say that is Albion ovens were very consistent in their design, they never varied like some other foundries plus the fact I have an Albion copy and know of several in other collections so Albions were copied. Just my opinion.

That could be the case PD as it is so different to any Albion's I have ever seen. As you say, they were very consistent in their design.

It is at the Jondaryan Woolshed so if anyone goes there they might be able to check it out.
