COMPETITION is expected to be fierce at the Koorlong Camp Oven Cook Off on Sunday. Eight teams will be out to impress the public and the judges with a three-course meal to be served up at the Koorlong Hall at 12pm. Last year’s winning team LRB – Leigh, Robert and Burgs – will be back to defend their title, while other past winners are staking their claim. Organising committee member Danny Littlehales said the competition was heating up ahead of the sixth annual event, with a new team also in the mix. “One of our new teams is causing a bit of hysteria,” he said. “Slow Food Mildura is coming out. They will be a bit of stiff competition.” Mr Littlehales said it was always a great family day, with plenty of activities for the kids. “There’s a big variety of food – roasts, cakes, seafood – it’s not just your traditional-type camp oven where you cook a stew or a damper,” he said. Entry to the event is by gold coin donation and $20 will allow spectators to sample each team’s creations. Mr Littlehales said a barbecue would also be cooked on the day as an alternative to a camp-oven meal. For more of this story, purchase your copy of Friday's Sunraysia Daily 19-7-2013.
