Just got home from the Drillham Camp Oven Cook Off on Saturday 31st August.

A wonderful event to raise funds for the Drillham Hall near Miles in Qld.

15 cooks competed in three sections, Main; Dessert; Damper.

All the cooks used a hole in the ground for cooking with hot coals supplied by the organisers.

Some wonderful dishes were plated up for the judges and the table of prizes was soon empty.

After judging people were invited to taste with the cutlery provided.

My favourites were the steamed fruit pudding with custard which took out first place in the Dessert section, and the home made Cumberland Sausage with caramelised onions. Beryl liked the Beef Roulade and Chicken Provencale which took out first place in the mains. The Kangaroo Curry smelt wonderful.

The Dampers were all a bit doughy but some good attempts.

A Dessert dish caused much interest, a banana with the skin on filled with mixed marshmallows and baked for 2 minutes. Part of the banana fruit having been removed, then the skin closed over the marshmallows.

Will add some photos later.

I was an observer as still getting over my broken leg and using a walking stick.
But intend to be cooking next year.

A very enjoyable day which has been held for several years.

But the best part of the day was - I got to meet Anita Bolton!  Smiley

Cheers - David
