Cook a chicken in camp oven but not to fast
Take the chicken out when done then take 2 to 4 table spoons of butter and some sweet chiilly sauce  and put it in the camp oven stewing it until   all the chicken fat ,butter and chilly saw are combined then add the prawns until cooked to the way you like them. Ahhh the chicken What chicken

Hey Derek it a real credit to you for getting this forum up and running as it has been a good read and a dam lot of info on what could have been lost Aussie history and you have a great follower in Chally for which if it was not for him telling me about it every time I talked to I would still be looking for answers. ( not sure how he done it but I even had dreams about him telling me ) my passion for camp ovens started with my late grandfather and still burns today with a great mate  CHALLY  Cool

Bloody iPads!  The boss keeps telling me that once upon a time I had to go down to the office to get onto the computer but with the iPad I have it in bed, the dunny and down the back yard where I have a little camp fire set up on which I boil the billy fairly regularly!

My recipe for prawns in a camp oven

INGREDIENTS

Camp Oven. Take a nice big one, around 15 inches
Couple of kilos of fresh cooked king prawns
Couple of big handfuls of ice

METHOD

Place prawns in camp oven, throw in a couple of handfuls of ice to keep cool and then sit down around the camp oven.

Pull a prawn out, pull the head off, peel the prawn and pop it in your mouth.

Keep up this process until all prawns are gone.

Ample supplies of beer to wash down goes a long way with it.

I've just tried something new, (to me anyway). On Christmas Eve I shelled, deveined and marinated some Endeavour prawns in garlic, sweet chilli sauce and Green Ginger wine. Left in fridge overnight and then pan fried in butter for Christmas lunch nibblies. Absolutely beautiful!! None left over. Will definitely be doing these again in then near future.
Cheers & beers,
Stubby. Tongue Tongue
